1. Shaving makes hair grow back thicker.Hair growth is determined by genetics and male hormone levels, says Dr Douglas Grose, medical director of Australian Skin Clinics. "No hair-removal method will encourage it to grow more aggressively. Hair will always grow back at the same rate and density." However, Grose says some techniques - such as laser, IPL or electrolysis - can reduce the number of functional hair folicles, slowing regrowth. 2. Chocolate causes spots.Chocolate may not be the healthiest of snacks but it doesn't cause break-outs. "There is no direct correlation between the two," says Emma Hobson, education manager for the International Dermal Institute, adding that people who eat a lot of chocolate are often comfort-eating. "Stress triggers the adrenal glands, which are then stimulated to increase production of testosterone and sebum in women. This is what can lead to skin problems." 3. Regularly changing your shampoo gives a better wash.Shampoo cleanses the hair of built-up sebum, skin debris and dirt, says hair troubleshooter David Salinger, executive director of the International Association of Trichologists. "The hair above the scalp is dead so cannot 'get used' to a shampoo. If your hair is feeling lank, it may be suffering from a build-up of styling products." To remedy this, use a clarifying shampoo once a month.
