Last Oct. it was selling in Woolworths here for A$2.50 each! Then when i went back to S'pore, it was selling for a kilo at only $2.50! Like May, i will usually get the canned ones here.

Actually I am not so much a rambutan fan ha ha ha... as if rambutan is a celebrity, got fans some more ;D My dad used to own a rambutan plantation, not sure if he still has it. We used to get sacks full of rambutans, some over ripe, plus the big black ants too - delivered to us by the people who took care of the property for him. Incidentally, my favourite canned food is longan. Most aussies don't know what longan is, they thought it is lychee. So I have been working hard introducing longans to my family here My favourite & super easy dessert on hot day would be almond jelly with longan. Hubby loves it, so too my PILs.

Guess what? I am a huge longan fan too! Recently I managed to grow a few longan seedlings from seeds, not bad huh? From what I read, growing longan from seed will take a good 3-5 years before it starts to fruit. But then again I guess it will take a lot longer over here as plants are usually dormant in winter. But that's ok, I am happy to wait! Good things come to those who wait! ;D

May do you plant it on the ground? I'd like to have a longan plant too, but can only plant it in a pot - so maybe it would fruit huh. Usually i buy the canned ones, not the fresh ones, very seldom seeing them here anyway.

Longans can be found quite easily here in the Chinese shop that i go to. It's about A$2 for 100g. I love logans too; more than lychees. May when your logan plants start to fruit, remember me huh!! ;D As for me, my house has a small grape plant. This year it's bearing some grapes but my dog is already helping himself to it!!
